Shift Trends

Dashboard analytics capabilities have been enhanced with eleven new panels related to measuring analytics trends across multiple shifts. A trend is defined as the overall tendency of analytics values to change per shift based on values from recently completed shifts.

Trend Calculation: A trend line is calculated using the best fit line algorithm, which finds a straight line close to as many values as possible. The slope of this line is the trend per shift, which indicates the overall tendency of the analytics value to increase or decrease by a specific amount from one shift to the next.

Confidence percentage: A confidence percentage is also calculated to indicate how well the trend line correlates with the historical data. A high confidence indicates that the trend is more likely to continue. Conversely, a low confidence indicates that the trend is not a reliable predictor of future values because the historical data is too chaotic.

Maximum Value Trend: For example, a Maximum Value Trend panel could show the warmest temperature reached inside a cooler during each of the past seven completed shifts as a bar chart, with a trend line indicating an 85% confidence that the maximum temperature is getting warmer by approximately 0.9 degrees per shift. This trend may indicate that the A/C system is losing efficiency due to a coolant leak and requires servicing.

Default setting: By default, seven of the most recent shifts are used to calculate a trend, but the user can change this number between three and twenty shifts for each trend panel on the dashboard. The number of shifts can be changed by clicking the edit button on the trend panel after it has been added to the dashboard and entering a new value.

Adding a Trend: When adding a trend panel to the dashboard, please note that the panels in the Trends and Group Trends sections offer trend analysis for their respective analytics panels found directly above in the Analytics and Group Analytics sections. Trend analysis is available for Compliance, Utilization, Productivity, Average Value, Maximum Value, and Minimum Value of individual measurements. Group Trend analysis is available for Average Compliance, Average Utilization, Average Productivity, Minimum Productivity, and Total Productivity of all compatible measurements inside hardware groups or measurement groups.

Trend Panel Requirements: The same requirements apply to trend panels as analytics panels. Trend panels for Compliance and Utilization require measurements with a threshold. Trend panels for Utilization and Productivity require measurements that output binary values, while the rest require scalar values. Group trend panels have similar requirements and all compatible measurements in the group must also share a time zone.

Average, Maximum and Minimum Value

Analytics have been enhanced with three ways to analyze real-time and historical sensor data: Average Value, Maximum Value, and Minimum Value. These analytics functions calculate the average, maximum, or minimum value during each shift for measurements that output scalar values, such as temperature.

These analytics functions are available as three panels for real-time dashboards, as well as three options on the historical Analytics Reports page. If the selected measurements have a threshold, the analytics value is color-coded based on threshold status.

For example, the Maximum Value analytics function can show the warmest temperature inside a cooler reached during the current shift, or during every shift in the past two weeks, and the value is shown in red if the cooler became too warm. In another use case, a user may wish to monitor the average vibration level of a motor during each shift using the Average Value function and compare it with averages from previous shifts to spot unusual behavior of the motor.

Goals for Analytics

Optionally, analytics can now be enhanced with goals. Each goal defines the desired output for selected measurements during a shift for a specific analytics type. Analytics for measurements with goals are automatically enhanced by comparing each measurement’s output against its goal. Analytics values appear green if the goal has been met or if the goal is projected to be met by the end of the shift, otherwise they appear red. Analytics values without a goal appear blue. Goal-enhanced analytics are available for both historical analytics reports as well as real-time analytics dashboards. Even aggregated analytics reports support goals, as long as all the measurements being aggregated have the same goal. Goals can be managed and attached to measurements on a new Goals page accessible from the Analytics menu.

Shift Schedule Management

Administrators will be able to define a set of related work shifts at a facility. Each shift is defined by days of the week and times of the day in local time when the shift is active. A shift schedule can be assigned to measurements that monitor the environment or equipment in use during these shifts. Shift schedules pave the way for Swift Sensors to provide real-time and historical analytics based on work shifts, including the utilization of equipment, compliance with thresholds, and productivity at various stages of a production line.
